Take Care of Your Sewer Line Might Be Clogged

All of your home's plumbing fixtures, drains, and pipelines connect to the main sewer line. The main sewer line can be damaged by improper use of those fixtures, drains and pipes. The main sewer pipe can become clogged (or collapse) and require serious repairs or even replacement.

Knowing what causes sewer pipes to clog and identifying the warning signs may help to avert a large repair or replacement.

Below are a few common culprits that contribute to sewage line damage:

  • Broken or damaged sewer lines prevent sewage from draining properly, causing frequent backups.
  • Sewers sag with time. This "bellied" pipe is caused by sinking ground or soil.
  • As roots grow, they seek water. They can grow through sewer pipes to obtain the water they carry. As the roots grow, they produce obstructions and eventually collapse the pipe.
  • Flushing debris down the toilet causes sewer drain problems. Only flush human waste and toilet paper when flushing.
  • Grease, fats, and oil clog sewer pipes. These should not go down the drain. When chilled, they will solidify and clog your sewer pipe.

Sewer Line Inspections

By scheduling routine sewer camera inspections, you are proactively preventing potential sewer line problems. If you hear gurgling sounds, you may need a sewer camera inspection to investigate the source. Multiple clogged or backed-up fittings indicate a primary sewer line obstruction. Call inteGreen today and we can set up routine service to ensure that your sewer lines are functioning at full capacity.

If you are experiencing problems with a single fixture–like a clogged toilet, sink, or bathtub– it may be a drain stoppage. If your drain stoppage requires a professional service to resolve, we'll examine the drain and provide you with a quote on the spot. A clogged drain will rarely require a video camera check.
